Dr. Yuri Dublyansky of Innsbruck University studies ancient cave art from the Ural Mountains in Russia to help better understand their age and how humans have evolved from thousands of years ago.
Ignatievskaya cave, Red panel. Drawing of a rhinoceros-like animal on the inclined ceiling in the Terminal Hall of the cave. Calcite flowstone with tree-branch pattern was formed after the drawing was made. The uranium-thorium dating of this flowstone will help to constrain the youngest age of the drawing.
