Dr. Yuri Dublyansky of Innsbruck University studies ancient cave art from the Ural Mountains in Russia to help better understand their age and how humans have evolved from thousands of years ago.
Ignatievskaya cave, Black panel. Contour drawing of a horse, made by charcoal on the inclined ceiling in the Terminal Hall of the cave. Two light-colored undulating diagonal lines intersecting the drawing is the calcite flowstone, which formed after the drawing was made. The uranium-thorium dating of this flowstone will help to constrain the youngest age of the drawing.
